Multidisciplinary artist. Istanbul & Lisbon. Sculpture, installation, performance.

b. Istanbul — lives & works between Turkey and Portugal
Serra Behar is a Lisbon-based multidisciplinary artist and the founder of Project DNA: Restitching Memory, working across sculpture, installation, video, performance, and kinetic systems. Her practice operates at the intersection of material experimentation, cultural memory, and socially engaged methodologies.
Working between Portugal and Türkiye, she develops installations and time-based works that reconfigure found materials, architectural fragments, and animatronic elements into dynamic systems reflecting on identity, transformation, and collective memory. Her works have been exhibited internationally and are held in private collections.
Her earlier work introduced azulejos as a material and conceptual reference, reflecting on urban memory and transformation. Building on this foundation, her practice has evolved into an ongoing trilogy—Autoimmunity & Allergy, Project DNA: Restitching Memory, and Take Over—which investigates fragmentation, repair, and transformation as both material processes and social metaphors.
She is currently developing and actively realizing Project DNA: Restitching Memory, a large-scale participatory installation that brings together broken azulejo fragments through collective stitching processes developed with local communities in Lisbon. Serra Behar’s production and workshop activities are currently ongoing at the Project DNA Space in Marvila, where the project continues to evolve through collaborative making, research, and public engagement, positioning art as a tool for cultural continuity, reconstruction, and shared future-making.
